Yesterday I posted about the 8 Movie Horror Collection currently hiding in the $5 Bins at most Wal-Marts right now. It seems that these are becoming harder and harder to come across as the word has been spreading across facebook. But in my morning travels I was able to spot an extra copy and figured I would save you the trip of having to actually go to Wal-mart yourself or trying to be the winning bidder on Ebay! As you can see this collection has the following movies "Waxwork", "976-Evil 2", "Ghoulies 3", "The Unholy", "C.H.U.D. 2", "Chopping Mall", "Slaughter High", and "Class of 1999" . . .

Upcoming 35mm Screenings in The Philly Area To Check Out!

By the time you read this it will probably be too late for you to make plans to catch a rare 35mm screening of Videodrome at the Philadelphia International House , but here are some upcoming repertory shows at the The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA and also some more at the iHouse in University City now until the end of Summer worth seeking out!

An actual good reason to go to your local Wal-Mart . . .

It's takes a lot to get me to step into a Wal-Mart. Living in Philadelphia the two stores in my surrounding area (one in South Philly and the other in Delco) are what I picture Hell to be like. Between the kids running up and down the aisles unattended while their moms are busy filling their shopping carts with candy, soda and other junk on the State's dime OR waiting 20 minutes in line because even though there are tons of people in the store ready to check out, there are never more than a few cashiers for some reason. If I'm there it usually has something to do with raiding their $5 bin for some cheap movies. Last year I saw online that they had a Leprechaun 1 to 4 Set and also The Substitute series starring Tom Berenger (and later Treat Williams) for $5 also.

In the last week I have seen this set of 8 movies posted by some of my good friends on their facebook walls!

And I knew that I needed to own this so, today after work I visited my least favorite store and made the trip to Wal-Mart in South Philly! For FIVE DOLLARS I now own these movies on DVD for the first time (most of them). I already owned "Slaughter High" & "Chopping Mall"  and a couple others on VHS . . . But I am really happy I was able to get all of them for cheap! You really can't go wrong with C.H.U.D. 2:  Bud The CHUD and Ghoulies Go To College!

I have seen a few people ask what is the quality of this set and I have to say they look better than the price I paid for them. Sure, most are in full screen, but I am willing to overlook that since that is how I first saw most of them the first time (on cable or when I rented them back in the day).

Since I was there and came across the movie I really wanted rather fast I did a quick scan of the other sets they had and WOW some of them are really good!

Shit Movie Fest Presents: Stu-A-Mania (A Wrestling Themed SMF Event!)

This coming Sunday (April 1st) will be the date for our Monthly Shit Movie Party. This one in particular I have been looking forward to for quite some time . . . In fact it's been just about a year in the making!

You see last April my good buddy Stu hosted his annual spring barbecue dubbed "The Stu-B-Que". It was to take place on the last Sunday of March, but due to a weather forecast that called for snow that weekend he rescheduled it for the following Sunday . . . It just so happened that the new date was also the same day as WrestleMania XXVII!

During the party we were able to convince Stu to order the pay-per-view later that night and all of us had a lot of fun sitting in his living room and drunkingly cheering on The Undertaker, The Rock, and The Jersey Shores' Snooki and booing the fuck out of John Cena, The Miz and HHH. Call it a bit of Nostalgia . . . Call it us being Drunkards . . . But whatever it was it was an extremely fun night and it gave me the idea that we should do this the next year, but somehow turn it into an SMF Party with Stu hosting! So flash forward to now and the idea for that SMF Party is pretty much this . . . Just like last year Stu will to be barbecuing outside during the day and at night we are going to watch WrestleMania 28, but this year we will be featuring wrestling relate movies and documentaries before Mania starts! This wrestling themed event will forever be known as "Stu-A-Mania"!

Mad Monster Party 2012 Recap (Part 2 of 2)

Here is the second half of my Mad Monster Party recap. Where part one featured a lot about Charlotte (The city that hosted it) this half deals a lot more with the Con itself.

Saturday March 24th
Once I got into the show Saturday morning I noticed it was a lot more packed than the night before. I was glad that I got most of the signatures I wanted out of the way the first night because I was able to fit a lot more in Saturday instead of waiting in some of the longer lines.

The First Person I meet that day was Patty Mullen known best for her role as "Frankenhooker". Patty was super sweet. During the morning she appeared as herself, but later in the evening she was dressed in full Frankenhooker gear and makeup! I was lucky enough to get pics of her as both. Like I said she was as nice as they come and was a great 1st time guest. Patty's Makeup was done by The Get Dead Crew ( http://www.facebook.com/GetDeadCrew )

Mad Monster Weekend 2012 (Part 1 of 2)

So after letting everything sink in, here is my Mad Monster Party Weekend recap. I decided to also include some tidbits on Charlotte, the city that hosted the event, since it too was a big part of making this an awesome weekend. So if you are not interested in my mini-road trip skip on down to the half way point ;)

My Most Prized Wrestling Related Possession . . .

A while back my good friend Tom K asked me what my most prized wrestling related possession was. I have to say this bloody $1 dollar bill from a match between The Public Enemy (Rocco Rock & Johnny Grunge) and Bad Breed (Axl Rotten and Ian Rotten) takes the cake. Growing up in Philly I was always a huge ECW fan and when I started working for the City of Philadelphia I made quick friends with Frank Talent who worked for the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission at the time. Frank was able to get me back stage for a lot of the the 3PW and early CZW shows back around 2002 - 2004. Because of him I was able to meet Bam Bam Bigelow, Rocco Rock, Sandman, Dusty Rhodes, and Ron Jeremy who was at the ECW arena hosting a wet t-shirt contest.

At a show in 2002 I was sitting front row and ended up getting handed this dollar that was first stapled into Ian Rotten's head and then ripped off by Rocco Rock! Yeah this thing is more than likely the most unsafe thing I have ever put my hands on, but it's has been framed for about 10 years so I hope the germs have since worn off  . . . ECW! ECW! ECW!

Wrestling Comics from the The Attitude Era . . . (Undertaker Edition)

Ok so here's the follow up to the previous post about 90's Wrestling comics, these are all from the Chaos Comics Undertaker Series. I went threw these while I was scanning the covers and I got to say they weren't half bad. They had had an easy to follow story, and besides Taker they featured WWF's "Paul Bearer", "Mankind", "Kane", and a new characters "Jezebelle" that was Taker and Kane's Sister and "The Embalmer" who was actually Hitler!

Wrestling Comics from the The Attitude Era . . . (Part 1 of 2)

This is the first of a week's worth of Wrestling Related posts I have planned for here that will lead up to Stu-A-Mania, our monthly Shit Movie Fest Party. Stu-A-Mania is going to be a Wrestling Themed Day of Bad Hulk Hogan movies and followed by us ordering the WrestleMania 28 PPV featuring the Rock vs. John Cena.

To kick things off for these blog posts I went threw my old comic books to find all the Wrestling related ones I still have! During the Late 90s/Early 00s Wrestling was every where, WWF Monday Night Raw was the #1 Show on Cable and it's rival WCW Nitro wasn't far behind. Both companies had Merchandising dealing with everything from Toys to Cologne. So Comics seamed like it would be a natural fit, and being the 15 Year Old Mark that I was I couldn't get enough. Paging threw this at the time I didn't realize how awful there were and how much of a sucker I was for buying into the multiple special edition covers thinking they would be worth something in the future lol

Monster Mania 21 Recap (Friends and Celebrities Edition)

I wanted to get my recap up yesterday for Monster Mania 21, but I was battling a virus and since I am still not 100% I'm just making two abbreviated posts . . .

This post I'll write about hanging with friends (always my Horror Con highlight) and the celebrities I met (the fewest of any con I been too). The second post will just deal with all my weekend purchases.

Here goes starting with Friday

I am beginning to learn Friday is the best night to get in the autographs since it has the least amount of people at the show, so the lines are never that long. Saturday is almost impossible to move around and Sunday the guests are usually showing some major fatigue.

There were only 4 guests I really wanted to meet this weekend and I got 3 of them the first night.

The first was Meg Foster from "They Live". Meg was super nice and a joy to talk to. I caught her while the show was just starting so I got to talk to her for a bit about working with Piper and also working with Terry O'Quinn on Stepfather II.

I got her to sign my They Live poster by Chris Ott (London 1888), so far I have John Carpenter, Roddy Piper, and Meg's signature . All I am missing now is Keith David's!

The Creature from the Black Lagoon (By Terry Cruikshank)

Sorry I was very under weather today, hence no Monster Mania 21 recap just yet, but I do have the energy to post about the coolest thing I picked up at this past weekend Horror Con . . .

 It's a Gill-man figure done by Terry Cruikshank Creations

I have been a fan of Terry's talents for a good while now and I wanted to get this Creature figure at HorrorHound in Ohio, but I was afraid it would take a lot of damage on the flight home. As you can see this Gill-Man is huge!  The pic above it is standing next to the old B.K. toy from the 90s and my photo doesn't do it any justice because it is highly detailed.

The Best Movies I Still Own on VHS (Vol.2)

Here is Volume 2 of my old VHS collection posts. Many of these videos were bought from either "Moon Light Video" or "SouthWest Video" when they both went out of business.

SouthWest Video was originally a "West Coast Video" so they had a much better selection when they were open and even when they went under. That was in the late 90s/early 2000s because I don't ever remember them making the switch over to DVD. Anyway here goes Vol. 2.

15 of the Cheesiest Songs in Movie History!

Much like the list last week of my "15 Favorite Songs featured in Horror & Cult Movies" I'm sticking only to songs that were made for the movie they appeared in, so sorry Dirk Diggler but "You Got The Touch" won't count!

All of these songs fall into my category of "so bad they're good" and made each of the movies they appeared in all the more memorable. These are the 15 I could think of off the top of my head. If there is anymore you think I might have missed please feel free to comment below.

The Best Movies I Still Own on VHS (Vol.1)

Since I did that post over the weekend about the 15 Worst VHS Tapes I Still Owned, I felt I needed a follow up to show some of the good stuff I managed to hold on to. I kept these video tapes because I never got around to replacing them on DVD and also because of their sentimental value. This list will be broken down into about 2 or 3 posts. With the first one having about 20 tapes featured and a quick anecdote on each . . . Enjoy :)

Vintage Print Advertisements #5 (Disney Adventures Edition Vol 1.)

This past weekend at our monthly SMF party James Kaminski ( ALIEN ASYLUM ) brought a big bag of epicness with him to help out with the blog's Vintage Print Advertisements feature . . . That bag was filled with nothing but "Disney Adventures" magazines from the early 90s!

All in all there was about 50 books loaned to me (with more to come!) and all of them were packed with 90s GOLD. You will be seeing ads from "Disney Adventures" on here for the next few months.

I remember having a good amount of these books back in the day. I always loved the 'cartoon character hanging out with the famous person' covers that most of them featured. For this first all "Disney Adventures" edition of V.P.A I grabbed 5 random issues. I scanned the covers along with a few ads from each for your enjoyment :)

15 of the Worst VHS Tapes I Still Own

The amount of VHS tapes I still own are pretty limited. I would say I own a little more than a hundred. I started to switch over to DVDs I phased most of my collection out and only kept the movies that weren't readily available on disk at the the time. When I was going through the boxes yesterday to do that "TV on VHS" post I realized I that I still had some horrible movies in my possession!  Here are 15 of the WORST. I scanned their front and back covers for your amusement . . .

Television Shows on VHS

As I'm sure many of you are aware of by now, there has been a bit of a VHS resurgences in recent years. . .

Tapes of movies that have never gotten a proper DVD release can still earn a seller good money on Ebay/second hand markets and there's also some companies even going as far as releasing newer movies on VHS as a limited edition!

Even though I still consider VHS to be a dead format I still try my hardest to incorporate at least one tape into the monthly Shit Movie Fest Parties.

But one thing that is VHS related that I can't bring myself to feel nostalgia for is television shows on tape!

Now while I do remember having tapes of "Tales From The Crypt", "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", Nick's "Are You Afraid of the Dark" and the T.M.N.T. cartoon (and enjoyed watching them over and over again). There are a few problems I remember when looking back at these tapes! For one, the amount of room you'd needed to store most of these shows was crazy if you had a complete set ?Heck just look at the size of these "Highlander: The Series" box sets, lol.

It's beginning to look alot like Horror Convention Season!

Around this time next week I will be leaving work, heading home for a bit to freshen up, and than I'll start getting my gear together for MonsterMania 21 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey!


Oddly enough this show will also mark the one year anniversary of the first Horror Con I ever attended, that being Monster Mania 17. Since then I made it to a nice amount of other shows up and down the East Coast and also made some great friendships along the way. Next weekend I'm really looking forward to hanging with everyone at the Hotel Bar, sneaking beers from the SMF Cooler with Jay and Steve of ICON vs. ICON, and buying some awesome stuff from dealer rooms in the process.


So while I wait for next Friday to come I figured why not make a post looking back at some of the cool shit I bought and some of the signatures I aquired from the celebrity guests in the past year :)

March Happening Here on the SMF Blog . . .

So I was just going over my daily planner/calendar for the month of March and it appears I have some pretty awesome shit lined up so far. Most things I will end up doing recaps for here on the blog.

                               Night of the Creeps 35mm Screening at The Colonial Theatre

The Colonial in Phoenixville, PA will be hosting a screening of "Night of the Creeps" as part of their monthly First Friday Fright Night Event! As I was saying a couple days ago in this post, Creeps is one of my favorite B-Movies. I can't wait to see Tom Atkins and the Tom Atkins' mustache on the big screen!
